Terms of Service
Effective: 2026-04-24
Welcome to Scout. By creating an account or using Scout, you agree to these terms.
Who can use Scout
You must be 18 or older to create a Scout account. By signing up, you attest to being a parent or legal guardian acting on behalf of any child profile you create.
Scout is intended for use with a child, not by a child unsupervised.
What Scout is
A learning companion that uses an AI model (currently Anthropic's Claude) to ask Socratic questions and never give direct answers. Scout's responses are generated by AI โ they may be wrong. We do our best to keep them helpful, age-appropriate, and emotionally safe; we cannot guarantee they always will be. Use your judgment.
Your responsibilities
- Provide accurate child name and grade so Scout can adapt.
- Don't share your account password or session URLs with people outside your household / invited teachers.
- Don't try to extract Anthropic API credentials, scrape Scout's back-end, or interfere with other users.
- If you notice anything inappropriate in Scout's responses, rate it ๐ and (if it's serious) email us.
What we'll do
- Run sessions reliably to the best of our ability.
- Tell you when a session ended, when a teacher accepts an invite, etc.
- Honor every right listed in our Privacy Policy.
- Notify you of breaches that affect you, in line with applicable law.
Service availability
Scout is provided "as is." We may make changes, take features down for maintenance, or โ with reasonable notice โ discontinue the service. During closed beta we may pause sessions for upgrades.
Intellectual property
You keep ownership of anything you write. We get a license to process it to run Scout for you and to use scrubbed (no-name) conversations to improve our model.
Scout's product itself, including the prompt design, software, and any non-personal data, is ours.
Limitation of liability
Scout is intended as a learning aid. It is not a replacement for a teacher, therapist, or parent. We're not liable for educational outcomes, and to the extent allowed by law, our total liability is capped at what you've paid in the last 12 months (currently $0 during beta).
Changes to these terms
When we change them, the version stamp at the top changes and we re-prompt you to consent at next sign-in.
